  • Federal Pell Grant

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loan

  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan

  • Louisiana TOPS program

  • Louisiana GO grant program (available for a student qualifying for a Federal Pell Grant)

What financial aid resources are NOT available when transferring to the SoPA BSN degree program?

NO EXISTING TULANE INSTITUTIONAL MERIT OR NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS will be available.  Tulane undergraduates currently receiving an institutional merit scholarship or institutional need-based scholarship will no longer be eligible to receive such funding upon transferring into the School of Professional Advancement’s BSN degree program.

Students are encouraged to meet with their professional financial aid counselor to discuss the types of financial aid available if transferring into the Tulane SoPA BSN degree program.

What aid applications are required for consideration of financial aid at the SoPA nursing school?

Students enrolling in the Tulane BSN degree program who seek financial assistance will only need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they have not done so already.  Standard federal aid application processing will apply to determine the level of federal aid for which a student qualifies to receive.

Once these admissions requirements are complete, applicants should complete the application for the program found here

No. As long as the program’s admissions requirements are met, students will be able to apply to the Tulane accelerated BSN program through SOPA without completing their Bachelor’s degree at Tulane University. Please note that the completion of the admissions requirements will involve careful course planning, especially if an NTC student plans to complete the requirements in a shorter timeframe than the typical four-year college timeline and apply to the program before completing a bachelor’s degree.

Clinical experiences are held in-person at the Tulane downtown campus – facilities shared with medical students – and in New Orleans and surrounding area hospitals. Requisite classes are held online, asynchronously, with some synchronous components, giving students the flexibility to learn on their own schedule.

It depends. We highly recommend scheduling an appointment with a Pre-Health Advisor to discuss your specific situation.

Unfortunately, neither Posse or CollegeTrack scholarships are transferable to the School of Professional Advancement. While Posse and CollegeTrack scholars can be considered for admission to the Nursing program, students should meet with a financial aid counselor to review the financial impact of enrolling in the Nursing program before receiving their Newcomb Tulane College degree.

Students who enroll in the Nursing program through the School of Professional Advancement will need to re-apply for financial aid (by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the year/s associated with enrollment, if not already completed) and will not be eligible for their existing merit or need-based aid from Tulane. While federal and state aid may be available, students should meet with a financial aid counselor to determine the impact of their revised financial aid offer.

Yes.

You must apply to join the BSN Program.

Student athletes should consult with both a Pre-Professional Advisor and their athletics advisor to see if this program is right for them.

You cannot earn an NTC major or minor if you transfer into the BSN program, but there are options available:

Option 1: If you transfer into the BSN program, you will not earn an NTC major or minor. However, you can still take courses in any academic discipline of interest before transferring into the Nursing program. Remember that to be eligible for the Nursing program, you must complete 60 credits, including NTC core requirements and prerequisite nursing courses. Any courses taken at Tulane while you're an NTC student will appear on your academic transcript. Once you accept admission into a future term in the Nursing program, your program of study will change from your previous NTC program(school/degree/majors/minors).  It will be replaced with a new program of study, a BSN degree in the School of Professional Advancement, major in Nursing. Due to the nursing program requirements, you can only complete coursework within the nursing curriculum once you transfer into the program.

Option 2: Alternatively, you can graduate with an NTC degree and earn the majors and minors available as an NTC student. Towards the end of your NTC undergraduate program, you can apply for admission into the Tulane Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Upon acceptance into the Nursing program and after graduating from NTC with one bachelor's degree and any associated earned majors/minors, you can pursue a second bachelor's degree from Tulane, specifically the BSN. The School of Professional Advancement awards the BSN degree in conjunction with the School of Medicine’s Nursing program. Due to the nursing program requirements, you can only complete coursework within the nursing curriculum.

It is important that you speak to a pre-health advisor and academic advisor early and often regarding your interest in Nursing and other academic interests in order to map out your academic path and attain your career goals.
